We will emerge from this assembly with an updated vision and 12-month plan for climate activism in our state. The assembly will be organized around three themes: Fossil Fuel Infrastructure, Legislation, and Movement Strength. Everyone who is excited to be a leader in MA is welcome to come, whether you are an veteran or developing leader! We will have the assembly on the 30th, then participate in a direct action on the 1st (with an overnight in Worcester). Admission is free, but we ask for a donation, if possible, to cover food and lodging costs. On Saturday, May 18th from 10:30 to 2:30pm, 350MA and community members will gather to hold hands across the beach on Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation‘s Revere Beach to say,”Yes!” to clean energy and “No!” to offshore drilling and filthy fossil fuels. After the picture is taken, we will be able to picnic, so bring your family! Also don’t forget frisbees, soccer balls, baseballs, and any other fun beach games. April 19^th, 7pm: 350MA and National Wildlife Federation, in conjunction with Lesley University, are pleased to present an evening with Melina Laboucan-Massimo. Melina is an Indigenous and environmental activist from the Lubicon Cree in Northern Alberta, and a member of the Nobel Women’s Initiative. Having grown up in the tar sands region, Melina has seen first-hand the impacts of tar sands development on her Nation’s people, culture, and land. She now travels around the world to share her personal stories with the global community, including a presentation of testimony to the U.S. Congress.  Come hear Melina’s story with others from the greater Boston area, and meet Melina in person.

Also on the 19th, 7-9pm: three singers will come together to Voice Against Climate Change at Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston. Featured artists are: singer-songwriter Dean Stevens, Hindustani classical vocalist Warren Senders, and Boston’s “Queen of the Blues,” Toni Lynn Washington. April 20^th, 21^st,  and 22^nd: 350MA will be canvassing to get more comments against the Keystone XL pipeline during the comment period for the State Department. And get more 350MA members while we’re at it! Email Eli at eli@eligerzon.com for more info and to help!

April 21st, 12-5pm: A Day in the Boston Commons, Earth Day with local colleges. There will be live music, games, and 350MA will be present to table. Activities will be near the gazebo. 350MA will have a table.

That evening, from 7-9pm, there will be statewide viewings of the 350.org Do The Math documentary, followed by a Q&A from 350.org. All day on April 24^th, DCU Center in Worcester: The Massachusetts Sustainable Communities and Campuses Conference connects sustainability stakeholders from government, education, business, and nonprofits.  Our presenters and exhibitors are experts showcasing best practices and resources to implement sustainable practices.  Everyone interested in sustainability will find this event timely, practical and valuable. April 26th, 7pm: The film Bidder 70, featuring Tim DeChristopher, the college student who derailed an illegal BLM oil and gas lease auction in 2008, will be shown at the First Parish in Cambridge, 3 Church St., Cambridge, MA. Hosted by the Environmental Justice Task Force.

April 27^th, 10am-5pm: Starting at the Old South Church, ending at Trinity Church in Copley Square: Climate Revival in Boston.  Prominent speakers for this event will include: Bill McKibben, author and environmentalist (Skype or video); Geoffrey Black, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ; Katherine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church; Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus South Africa (video).  Connect with this event on facebook. 350MA will have a table. Continue reading »]]>   More than 1,000 people from Massachusetts traveled down to Washington D.C. for the Forward on Climate Rally on Sunday February 17th. About 500 people came from the Boston area, mostly on 7 buses that Better Future Project/350MA organized. Massachusetts filled 13 buses in total, and combined with others who carpooled, about 1,000 MA residents brought their energy to D.C.. There, they joined between 40,000 and 50,000 people outside the White House to call on President Obama (who chose to be on a golfing trip in FL during the march with some oil industry executives) to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would carry tar sands from Canada to Texas, through the middle of the country, to be refined.

350 Massachusetts had a strong turnout, gathering before the official start of the rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial (pictured above) and marching over to the National Mall together. Students, faith leaders, and other community members from the state came together for the day to call on Obama and the country to take action on climate change.

The rally, organized by 350.org and Sierra Club, included speeches by Bill McKibben (founder of 350.org), Van Jones (President Obama’s former green jobs adviser), Michael Brune, and Jacqueline Thomas (chief of the Saik’uz First Nation from British Columbia, Canada). Musical guest Eve came and performed 3 songs after the march. There were creative signs throughout the crowd, along with chants and songs that rang through the streets of D.C.. Participants were charged by the power of so many voices speaking up about stopping the pipeline.

Continue reading »]]> Approximately 1500 people descended on Portland, ME on Saturday, Jan. 26th, from all corners of New England to oppose the northeast Enbridge Exxon Tar Sands pipeline that would run from Montreal to Portland, via Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The march and rally got great press coverage and confirmed that a powerful climate movement is alive and well in New England!

Now, lets get ready to tell President Obama that we will not accept TransCanada’s plans to build the KeystoneXL pipeline in America’s heartland.

1) WakeUp! workshop Friday Nov. 16 at 8:30–10:30pm
facilitated by Dan Jubelirer, Tom and Kerry Thompson. Engage in an interactive, multimedia, peer-led workshop whose purpose is to ignite a generation of young people to bring forth a thriving, just, sustainable world.  GenerationWakingUp.org.

2) Screening of Bidder 70 Saturday at 7pm - “BIDDER 70 centers on an extraordinary, ingenious and effective act of civil disobedience demanding government and industry accountability. In 2008, University of Utah economics student Tim DeChristopher committed an act which would redefine patriotism in our time, igniting a spirit of civil disobedience in the name of climate justice.”

3) Keystone XL Solidarity Action Sunday at 1pm - We will be gathering behind the Church for a solidarity action to join 350.org and Tar Sands Blockade in reminding President Obama that we are still here and are still calling on him to DENY the permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline.

Continue reading »]]> We are calling on individuals and groups that share 350’s vision of a mass movement against climate change to bring the struggle to move beyond fossil fuels home to New England.  On November 17 & 18, supporters of 350.org will gather in Boston for a New England Convergence to address the region’s reliance on  fossil fuels and the methods we can utilize to expose and end their use, including building campaigns, shutting down fossil fuel infrastructure, political accountability, direct action, and policy tools such as fee and dividend carbon pricing.  We will work together to plan regional mass actions against fossil fuels on January 19, 2013, the Saturday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
